MSS is currently seeking volunteers for many of our programs. If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact us on ph (02) 6551 1800 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Here are some of the areas in which we’d welcome your involvement:
Community Visitors’ Scheme
Volunteers are matched to a socially isolated resident who needs a companion to sit with them for a few hours each fortnight. This may be someone in a nursing home or in their own home. Activities may include reading the newspaper together, playing a game, chatting or going for a stroll. We aim to match our volunteers with an appropriate older person, taking into account each person’s interests and background. Most CVS volunteers find that they enjoy the friendship as much as the older person does and that the relationship is positive and rewarding.
My Meals kitchen and delivery volunteers
Volunteers assist the My Meals team to prepare, cook and deliver fresh meals to a range of clients in the Mid Coast and Port Macquarie-Hastings council areas. The My Meals program has designated vehicles which are used for the delivery of meals.
Social Support volunteers
Social Support covers many areas, and volunteers are matched to an activity they enjoy. Roles include:
- Taking elderly clients shopping or helping them run errands.
- Assisting our Social Support team on outings, helping pick clients up from their homes in our bus, attending the outing, and dropping them back home at the end.
- Delivering respite to carers of clients by visiting the client in their home which allows the carer some time out.
- Assisting the running of our weekly Young Mums group during school term, which helps promote good parenting and offers life skills support. (A minimum of six months availability, working with children check and police check is required for this volunteering role.)
Our office volunteers assist in short-term projects or other office-related tasks as they arise. These roles are based within MSS offices across a number of programs.
