MSS understands that raising a family can sometimes be difficult and that some families require some support from time to time. MSS can provide case management to families using a strengths based, family centred framework. We can assist families with parenting, family violence issues, counselling, housing needs, advocacy with professional or government services, and group work.
To be eligible for service you will need to have a child 17 years or younger.
MSS also runs two support groups for families. These are:
- Young Mums’ Supported Playgroup which is held every Tuesday during school terms. Young mums (under 25’s) come together to meet others and share their stories and challenges. They learn new skills and have fun interacting with their children.
- The Waiting Room – this is a group for expectant parents under 21 years. The group is run by midwives from Biripi Aboriginal Medical Service as well as family support workers from MSS. It is a great opportunity for expectant parents to meet other expecting parents, discuss concerns and worries and share the joy of this special time within their lives.
