MSS are part of the Taree Community Connect Committee who have proudly donated $23,265.51 to “Make a Difference”. This money will go towards the purchase of an Orange Sky Laundry Van, which will provide homeless and disadvantaged people in Taree a free clothes washing service, provide resources, provide referrals to services who can help, give people someone to talk to and most of all show people they matter.
In 2016 Erin Denham, a Port Macquarie High School teacher, founded “Make a Difference” (M.A.D), a local not for profit registered charity, with the primary aim of assisting people in our local community who are disadvantaged and are experiencing hardship. M.A.D’s first project was to raise $110,000 to purchase an Orange Sky Laundry Van.
Within 8 months Erin and her team of 7 had raised $90 000 when the Taree Community Connect Committee made contact with M.A.D in regards to some funds raised by the Taree community over the past 4 years to help the homeless in the Taree area through holding Winter Sleepout events.
Alison Neale from M.A.D met with the committee to present M.A.D’s dream of helping the homeless and disadvantaged. The donation from Taree Community Connect Committee to M.A.D brought them to their required $110 000. M.A.D has now ordered the van which they will launch in late September.
The van will service all areas from Kempsey to Taree. M.A.D relies 100% on volunteers and support from the community. The focus for the M.A.D team over the coming weeks is to recruit volunteers ready to start when the van arrives.
