Parenting Programs

MSS offers a wide variety of accredited parenting programs to assist parents to develop strategies and learn new skills. These programs are usually run through the school term within school hours.

My Kids & Me: Strengthening Relationships with Kids in Care

A course for parents whose children have been placed in statutory care and where restoration may or may not be part of the care plan. The program aims to improve the family relationship and parent relationship with Carers, Caseworkers and other professionals. The course gives participants opportunities to reflect on their experiences and give an opportunity for change. The course is not designed to give participants practical parenting help.

Managing Anger and Family Safety

Managing Anger, is an 8-week program for people who need help and support for their anger-related issues. Suitable for individuals who want to identify the signs of anger and help them manage their own anger as well as anger from others. This program is not suitable for couples or people who use violence in their intimate relationships.

Taking Responsibility: Men’s Behaviour Change Program

Taking Responsibility is an 18-week men’s behaviour change group program for men who’ve committed domestic violence in the past, but who are willing to move forward and make positive changes in their behaviour. For men who have demonstrated a commitment to creating relationships that are respectful and caring, with the help of peers and trusted, experienced facilitators in the domestic violence field.

Women’s Choice and Change

Domestic Violence Support Group offers a safe and supportive environment where you can share your thoughts and ideas, and learn from others experiencing similar challenges and strategies for positive change.

Circle of Security

A program that focuses on how to strengthen relationships with children, helps to understand children’s needs and behaviours and offers ways to respond appropriately.

Tuning in to Kids and Tuning in to Teens

The program provides a new way of working with families that focuses on the emotional connection between parents and children. It teaches parents skills in emotional coaching, to recognise, understand and manage their own and their children’s emotions.

Tuning in to Teens

A 6 week program for parents of adolescents aged 11-18 years, to help parents understand their own emotions, understand teens’ emotions and behaviour, develop greater connection and better communication with teens, help and guide teens to manage their emotions and behaviours, and teach them to deal with conflict.
